MERLOT FRIULI DOC

“In rugby, the big boys up front get called ‘the fatties’ – Ciccio, in Italian. One of my greatest friends is a former front rower for Italy. And he’ll tell you it isn’t just size or skill that wins a test – it’s passion. He’s strong, he’s big… but his heart’s even bigger. So of course, I named this bold, full-bodied red Ciccio for the most passionate ‘fatty’ of them all…”

Tasting notes

The colour is intense ruby red. The aroma is pervasive, charming and constantly evolving in the glass,
alternating between fruity and spicy notes.
With a pleasant, fresh flavour, it offers lingering fruity notes, supported by balance.

Food pairing

Best paired with bold flavours: it works well with red and cured meats, hard cheese, mushroooms.

Area of production

The vines of Le Monde are situated in Friuli, an ancient land touched by the Adriatic Sea in the south and protected by the Alps in the north. Le Monde vineyard is located in the Grave del Friuli area, shaped by the rivers that have deposited here the calcareous-dolomitic material torn from the mountains and carried downstream along their bed. These plots mainly consist of clayey-calcareous soils of alluvial origin and the soil is also rich in micro-elements important for black grape varieties, which benefit from particular microclimatic conditions.

Production process

Training system guyot with harvest time mid September. Maceration with daily pigeage at a controlled temperature for 15-20 days. Stainless steel maturation for 8-10 months.
