TERRE SICILIANE ROSSO IGP

NOTES FROM THE WINEMAKER: “Lamoresca Rosso is crafted by blending two grape varieties, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, both typical of our region near the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG area. It was our first wine and a perfect marriage of these varietals. Nero d'Avola contributes sharp tannins and a robust body, harmonized by the Frappato's easy, red cherry fruitiness. The blend evolves each year, influenced by the vintage, quality, and our preferences.”

Tasting notes

"Cherry, raspberry, spice and dried herb rub, a little peat and dried flowers. Medium-bodied, freeze dried berries, stony tannin, fresh and flavoursome, with loads of scrub herb perfume and spice. So interesting and great to drink. A top vintage for Lamoresca." (Gary Walsh)

Area of production

San Michele in Ganzaria, in the heart of Sicily. Altitude of 430 meters above sea level. Clay and sand soil. Typical Mediterranean climate: very warm and dry in the summer, very little rain.

Production process

Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. 30 days of maceration on the skins in vertical “tini”, the skin gets manually pressed down twice a day, without temperature control or added yeasts. Maturation in 25-year-old truncated conical vat of Slavonian oak for 12 months max.

Fun facts

Lamoresca is a small producer in the southern province of Catania, where the hot Mediterranean climate is tempered by 450 meters altitude. Here, Fillipo Rizzo works with indigenous varieties, adhering to minimal-intervention practises in both vineyard and cellar. His reds are bright, and crunchy and have a real sense of life to them, the white is saline and exotic. These are wines of rare character and great energy. Pure, natural, and fundamentally delicious to the last drop.
